About Us

My name is Fred Kuipers. I am the proud owner of "BLOEMIST the Dutch Florist" in Skipton. Bloemist is Dutch for Florist.

I started in floristry when I was 12 years old at our neighbours’ flower shop in Holland. I attended college for floristry in Holland for 8 years. The last 4 years was just floristry and interior design. In 1993 I finished college with my exam results at the highest level in floristry. With these results I could enter a 2 year course for Master florist. In 1995 I became a Master Florist.

I worked in different shops through the years. I started in a city called Groningen at Pim Tameling Bloemen, with a dustpan and brush. He was the best trainer in floristry I ever had. He was right, in saying that everyone should start at the bottom and work their way up, as it makes you better at your job in the end.

I had my own shop in the North of Holland for about 2 years. I sold my shop for the opportunity to work for the best Floral artist Menno Kroon in Amsterdam. This was a fantastic experience.

It makes me happy when I see loads of flowers in different colours. I love to mix lots of colours and shapes of flowers, from very simple to very extravagant, from tropicals to very delicate, and from a nice single flower to a giant bouquet. I really love seasonal flowers, I don’t like tulips before the real season starts, or sunflowers in winter. And in summer I really love English garden roses.

I see flowers in the same way as I see a diamond, It has to be special even when you buy them for yourself. Buy them as a treat and let them make yourself or the person who you buy them for Happy.
